About Dr. Stephen Rockower

Stephen Rockower, MD, is an orthopaedic surgeon at Capitol Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation in Rockville and Damascus, Maryland. In addition to general orthopedic care, he specializes in reconstructive surgery and joint replacement for patients of all ages.

A native Philadelphian, Dr. Rockower attended Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania to pursue his undergraduate degree. He returned to Philadelphia to earn his Doctor of Medicine from Temple University. Dr. Rockower did his internship and residency at George Washington University and served as chief resident at George Washington and the Washington Hospital Center.

In addition to his work at Capitol Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation, Dr. Rockower is active in medical society affairs, and serves on the executive board of the Montgomery County Medical Society(MCMS) and he is a past president of both MCMS and MedChi, the Maryland State Medical Society. Plus, as a Maryland AMA delegate, he has a direct input on decisions on medical policies in Maryland and nationally. He has also served on the boards of the Jewish Council for the Aging and the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington and volunteered as a docent for the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.

Dr. Rockower makes a positive impact wherever he goes, both in person as an orthopaedic surgeon, and in print as a contributing author and editor for the journal Maryland Medicine. Washingtonian Magazine, Washington Checkbook and others have also recognized Dr. Rockower as “Top Doctor” many times.

Dr. Rockower and his wife of 45 years, an attorney, have three children together, all of whom have followed in their parents’ footsteps in various ways: one is a medical student in South Carolina, one serves as a trauma nurse at the University of Pennsylvania, and the other holds a degree in public diplomacy from the University of Southern California.
